The $260K Judgment Against Right-Wing Kim Davis Cause to Celebrate — A Little Bit

In today’s world, where we are hit with a tsunami of news every day, you might’ve missed this story. But it’s worth pointing out.
Tuesday’s announcement of the judgment against county clerk Kim Davis brought celebration in many circles. The court fined Ms. Davis $260,000 after years of court hearings on her denial of marriage licenses to gay couples. Additionally, an earlier decision ruled that Davis must also pay $100,000 in damages to one of the couples, David Ermold and David Moore.
Kim Davis is the former clerk in Rowan County, KY sued by two same-sex couples for refusing to issue them marriage licenses in 2015. The video of her refusal taken at the county clerk’s office went viral at the time.
Davis’ refusal happened on the heels of the U.S. Supreme Court’s 2015 ruling that legalized gay marriage in the Obergefell v. Hodges case, to the relief of many Americans.
Currently, there are concerns that after overturning Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court will seek to do the same to the Obergefell v. Hodges ruling. So the Davis case judgment hits at…
